You’ve heard of the affiliates pullin’ in huge sums of cash on a monthly basis, right?  We’re talking about 6 figures a month here.  The affiliates doing that level of revenue are almost always doing media buying.  A lot like most things marketing, it’s an art and a science.

Media Buying Best Practices At A Glance

  • Start small – despite popular belief not all media buying requires $10,000 to get started
  • When possible buy direct from the site owner
  • Test, Test, Test – Duh.  The key here is to make sure you test everything.  Test banners to increase your CTR’s and test your landing pages to increase your conversion rates.
  • Calculate lifetime customer value – this is easier when you’re promoting your own product.  However you can do with as an affiliate too.

Start with a small buy and test the banner. Above the fold ads are best whenever possible. As you test, see which items work and which need to be changed. You will need to continuously change up your ads to have people clicking through. It is a good idea, when you find you have a successful campaign, that you have anywhere from five to ten ads a day. Never rest on your laurels when something is working. Your campaign will lose effectiveness if you do. Keep new adds coming and your campaigns will do better.

One of the media buying best practices is to purchase your ads between 8:00 PM and 4:00 AM EST. This is when most people are on the Internet for personal reasons. You will find that this is one of the best things you can do to rev up a campaign.
Continue to improve on your ads. Add new ads on a regular basis and create new campaigns. By doing so, and mixing them with different targeting options, you will find that your business improves significantly.
